This was my first ever entry to Monday’s Challenge, a weekly animation/motion design challenge on Instagram. Monday’s Challenge provides a prompt and color palette, and animators must stick within five seconds. The animation can loop, however.
I really took this chance to play around with lighting and styling. I was hoping to push chiaroscuro as far as I could to capture the feeling of just being so engrossed in a game that everything else disappears into the background. In pushing that lighting I did end up straying a bit from the palette’s chosen gold color with the brights dipping into a bit of orange in saturation.
I used some new techniques with CC Light Sweep in After Effects this time as well, making sure to add highlights and rim lighting to everything. I pushed the intensity of the light on his glasses quite a bit as the game system comes closer as well.
A lot of my previous animations had me rushing with so many ideas that I felt like I couldn’t really finish off many of the scenes to my own liking, so it was a nice change to focus on something simpler with movement and try and nail it.
